@tychi 🤔 I'm not sure I follow the relation to coke 🤔 But everything before, a definitely good reason to stay in CSS! Another reason: learning CSS is frustrating because it's one of the few languages that are difficult to "learn by doing" (that is, learning by having a goal in mind and researching what CSS you need based on that goal in mind)

@brandon for the coke example... all soda is like 99% the same. sure it tastes different and feels different. the recipe changes and the formula stays the same. it's just primarily marketing and white labeling (why all 12oz cans are the same size canvas).

for my styles, i always start with the same base html and just go ham from here, especially with css grid now this is so powerful

<body>
<nav></nav>
<header></header>
<main></main>
<footer></footer>
</body>

for learning, we've come along way since browsers are much more tinker friendly now, by being able to play directly in the inspector. but yeah, it's a bit of a different dialect lol

@tychi I wonder if there's a better way to put "The recipe changes but the formula stays the same" 🤔

Like, there are multiple ingredients in a given recipe that can play the role of "binding" ingredients, but regardless of which one you choose, you're still binding the ingredients.

So recipe A might have ground flax and recipe B might have wheat flour, but both recipes have the same formula in that they require a binder.

There has to be a better way to put that 🤔

@brandon a recipe template? I try and make cocktails that adhere to a 3-2-1 ingredient ratio. That's sort of a formula and similar ish.

Maybe CSS is just dialing in the design ratio.

@tychi Well there's also actual design theory, y'know?

These two background colours give very different impressions depending on who you are and what content is on the page.

On the left, the page seems very focused on typography, it gives the impression of something related to writing. It's also slightly intimidating.

On the right, it's a little less stark and more inviting. Almost has more of a vibe of intrigue rather than mystery.

@brandon exactly my point. CSS is that design theory layer. The difference between the two photos is so stark, it'll transcend dev stacks for the next millennia. It's not a solvable problem since that surrounding context is the overall medium of communication, everything else equal.
