@tychi so the way Mastodon works, if someone follows you and you don't follow them, and nobody else on your server follows them, then your server doesn't store information about what that person posts. So building that kind of timeline would drastically increase the workload of the server and also have privacy implications where people who aren't followed by you are still being "followed" by you. It's related to why you need to follow an account to add it to a list.
@ols@tychi yes but that is essentially a federation bot: an automated account that exists to expand a network for surveillance (and it is surveillance on a personal level) purposes. Lots of people don't like those, it feels like something of a social violation.
@darius that is 100% what it is. I know their usage is divisive and wasn't sure which side of the fence you were on (though probably could have guessed) and therefore didn't want to offer my opinion alongside the suggestion 😃
A community that offers a safe space for people to share their personal lives online (again). Social media doesn't have to be about only showing the best of you, all the time -- finding support and community for your struggles, small and big, is a cause worth pursuing.
